Because your pregnancy is unexpected, you may think now isn’t the time to parent a child. You worry about finances, time, and energy. Rightfully so, but did you know there are many resources available in our community and through the Options Women’s Care Center to assist you? Parenting is both rewarding and challenging. Before saying “no,” learn as much as possible.
Is Parenting Right for Me?
No one is ever fully prepared to be a parent, and we understand the fear and doubt that come with it. Every situation is as unique as every child, but there are questions you can ask yourself to see if parenting is right for you.
By answering the following questions, you can determine what resources you have available and what you will need.
- Will my parents or partner support me if I decide to parent?
- Where will I live?
- Is it possible to continue my education or career while being a parent?
- Can I obtain medical insurance, childcare, and living assistance?
- Am I mature enough to handle the situation?
- Am I willing to make the sacrifice?
Like all of your options, only you know what is best for you now and in the future.
Free Parenting Support
Assistance is available through our community. We recommend the RiseUp program at Muskegon Pregnancy Services. RiseUp is a free service that provides education for prenatal care, labor and delivery, and newborn care. Additionally, you can learn valuable life skills, including money management, healthy relationships, and more.
When you commit to RiseUp, you can participate in their “Earn While You Learn” program. You can earn everything from diapers and wipes to car seats, pack ‘n plays, and cribs. You take each class at your convenience.
It is possible to be a successful parent, and the RiseUp program will show you how.
